Thermic & Ultrasonic Installation SERPLAST TS Inserts
TS Symmetrical SERPLAST inserts are precision-engineered brass threaded inserts designed to create strong, durable metal threads in thermoplastic materials. Suitable for installation using either thermal (heat) or ultrasonic processes, these inserts provide excellent pull-out and torque resistance while minimizing stress within the surrounding plastic.
Designed for post-molding installation, TS inserts offer many of the benefits of overmolded inserts without requiring insertion during the molding process. Their symmetrical design allows for efficient installation and reliable performance across a wide range of thermoplastic applications.
How TS Inserts Work
During thermal or ultrasonic installation, the surrounding plastic is softened, allowing material to flow into the insert's knurled and grooved retention features. As the material cools, it solidifies around the insert, creating a secure mechanical bond that delivers high load-bearing performance.
TS inserts can be installed into molded or drilled holes and are also suitable for overmolding applications.

Installation Methods
Thermal Installation
A heated installation tool softens the surrounding plastic, allowing the insert to be pressed into position. Once cooled, the plastic locks securely into the insert's knurled profile.
Ultrasonic Installation
Ultrasonic energy generates localized heat, rapidly softening the thermoplastic and enabling fast, efficient insertion while maintaining excellent retention performance.
Overmolding
TS inserts can also be placed directly into molds and encapsulated during the molding process.
Installation Guidelines
- Position the insert in the pre-formed or drilled hole.
- Apply heat or ultrasonic energy using suitable installation equipment.
- Allow the thermoplastic material to soften around the insert.
- Apply controlled insertion pressure until the insert is fully seated.
- Allow sufficient cooling time before handling the component.
Important Installation Notes
- Plastic should be softened, not fully melted.
- Excessive heat can damage the surrounding material.
- Controlled insertion pressure is essential for optimum performance.
- Avoid disturbing the insert immediately after installation.
- A cooling period of approximately 12 to 20 hours is recommended for many thermoplastics to achieve maximum retention strength.
