A Guide to Rimlex®

Rimlex® is a pre-applied sealing system used on fasteners such as bolts, screws, rivets, threaded plugs and rivet nuts. It helps seal the contact area between the fastener and the mating surface in applications where moisture, dust or fluid leakage needs to be controlled.

How Rimlex® Works

For compression-sealing applications, the sealing material is applied beneath the fastener head or to another designated sealing surface before assembly. During installation, it compresses between the mating surfaces to form a seal.

Having the material already in place can simplify assembly and, in suitable joint designs, reduce the need for separate sealing washers or manually applied sealant.

Rimlex® Grades

Grades such as Rimlex® 620B, Rimlex® 600Y and Rimlex® 310 should be selected according to their individual technical specifications. Do not treat them as interchangeable: material compatibility, temperature limits, pressure capability and installation requirements need to be checked for the chosen grade.

Before selecting a product, confirm:

  • The fluids or chemicals the seal will encounter
  • The operating temperature and pressure
  • The fastener material, geometry and mating-surface finish
  • The required installation method and compression
  • Whether dismantling and reuse are permitted

Applications

Fastener sealing is relevant to automotive assemblies, industrial machinery, marine equipment and electrical enclosures. Rimlex® suitability for any particular assembly depends on the selected grade and the joint's service conditions.

Installation and Performance

Inspect the pre-applied material for damage and keep the mating surfaces clean. Follow the product's installation and tightening guidance to achieve the intended seal without excessive compression.

Validate sealing performance under the expected operating conditions. If the assembly is dismantled, check the manufacturer's guidance before reusing the sealed fastener.
